WITH A DREAM OF CLEAN HANDS
It's no secret that domestic cars break down more often than we would like. By fifty thousand * Skoda has finally broken.

It’s hard to convey the feelings of a person who has moved to a foreign car after many years of driving in “Muscovites”, “Lada” cars, etc. At first, everyone listens, looks closely and sniffs, expecting from the car at least some muck. But time goes on, the car works like a clock, stubborn oil stains have long been washed away, there are no reasons for new ones. Not fearing to get your cuffs dirty, you drive behind a wheel in a jacket and tie, and all worries come down to refueling, regular maintenance and glossing. And when he already believed that this idyll will last forever - a familiar knock, squeal or grunt is heard, the sand castle is crumbling and you feel cheated in your best feelings. Emotions beat over the edge, although the mind, from which the baggage of a higher technical education has not yet weathered, whispers: “There is no eternal“ iron ”…”.
"Felicia" rumbled for the 44th thousand kilometers. A thud from the front right was given by light strokes on the steering wheel. An absentee diagnosis - a malfunction of the steering rack - was fully confirmed when viewed on a lift. Most likely, a replacement guide bush is needed. A penny detail, even for a foreign car, only to buy it, as it turned out, is not easy.
After phoning two dozen stores and services, we found out that buying a rail assembly is not a problem. The range of prices is large, but after searching, you can meet the 130-140 dollars. The question of the sleeve of many “specialists” was astonishing. Some asked what it is and where it is - because the rail, in their opinion, cannot be repaired, but can only be replaced entirely. Only in three places we did not surprise anyone with our question, but there were no bushings at that time. As a result, they found as much as 25 rubles. We will devote a separate material to the Reiki repair process under the heading “On our own”, so we won’t go into details here.
The rail, however, the repair did not end. At the stand of the “descent-camber” a backlash of the ball joint was found. Another 330 rubles as never happened. But on the other hand, the car again pleases with no problem … until the next breakdown.
And what about Samara? Nothing serious, but keeping your hands clean does not. Quietly eats oil, requiring from TO to TO about 0.5 liters per topping. In the summer heat, she showed a tendency to overheat. Flushing the cooling system and replacing the Tosol helped bring down the temperature. Interruptions in the operation of the ignition, especially in wet weather, turned the ride into torment. They stopped only after a major audit of the electrical wiring under the hood, when they discovered leaks and oxidation of many connectors. All doors open with effort and a terrible creak - rusted hinges. And the driver's door sagged completely. The destruction in the cabin continues. Plastic parts - buttons, plugs, levers - pour in the rain. Ok plugs - in the 50th thousand replaced both ball bearings, and one for the second time.
During the "reporting period" (35-50 thousand km), Skoda did scheduled maintenance twice, Samara once. Work performed on their own, spent only on supplies. During the last service (44 thousand km), the front brake pads were replaced for the first time with Felicia. On the "nine", recall, the pads were changed to the 22nd thousand. Already the second "fit."
But “Samara” noticeably moderated its appetite in the summer - an average of 7.6 liters per “hundred”. “Skoda” has become a little gluttonous - 8.6 l / 100 km. In fairness, we note that she leaves the city less often.
Behind 50 thousand - who is the best? Let's wait a little longer. Normal operation is over; by spring, both cars should pass another "fifty dollars" in the most severe conditions, but not at the training ground, but along ordinary Russian roads. Then we put a fat point.
