The tale, of course, is a lie and a hint in it - the same technique, but in different versions it can solve problems both military and economic. The benefits of this are mutual: the "citizen" gets reliable, powerful transport that can solve extremely complex problems in the terrain, at temperatures from -50 to + 50 ° C, while the military department is able to reduce the cost of vehicles manufactured in large series. It is also important that there is no need for special training for drivers, and repair is also simplified - in which case, spare parts can be found in any fleet. It was this dual-use automotive technology that was dedicated this year to the demonstration at the training ground of the 21st Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense in Bronnitsy near Moscow, and not only in the parking lot, but also in action.

The ball was ruled by four-wheel drive all-terrain vehicles. The products of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant are well known to readers. In the heavy truck class, competition has intensified - the KrAZs and MAZs currently in service are now foreign cars and, by and large, need to be replaced. The point here is not kvass patriotism, but simple logic - the combat efficiency of the army, if possible, should not depend on imports, even from neighboring countries. Yes, and money and jobs will remain at home. As for the "opportunities", the domestic factories demonstrated them very convincingly. KamAZ drove out a whole herd of Mustangs with a carrying capacity of 4-10 tons. The Ural Plant has an even wider gamut: a biaxial Ural-43206 for 6 tons and a long-wheelbase Ural-4320-0311-30 for 10 tons of cargo; four-axle cargo "Ural-5323" for 12 tons and a truck tractor "Ural-5423" for a road train with a gross weight of 39 tons.

There is no doubt that the technique named here can find application in civilian life. Where? And where there are no roads - at geologists, oil industry workers, gas workers. We’ve got better off-road support than Europe’s motorways. And builders with installers sometimes need to transport something very heavy: either a turbine or a reactor - here a powerful tractor will do.

Another approach to the dual-use problem was illustrated by BPM-97 - an armored border vehicle developed jointly by KamAZ and MSTU. Bauman. The experience of local military conflicts has revealed an empty niche between the armored personnel carrier and the UAZ. This "workhorse of war" may be indispensable in the zone of military operations and border conflicts, to accompany convoys, to ensure the actions of maneuver groups and peacekeeping forces. Its main advantage is the maximum use of KAMAZ units and assemblies, which ensures low cost (just about twice as much as KamAZ-4350) and a high resource (270 thousand km). Various equipment weighing up to 2 tons can be placed in the armored hull, and a heavy machine gun, rapid-firing gun or anti-aircraft complex can be placed in the turret.

In general, as you can see, with a reasonable approach, you can have a completely organic combination of "civilian and military purposes" and even complement each other: put the handles on the one hand - you get a plow, attach a machine gun on the other - that's the ax.
