WE GUIDE “SPRAY JARS"

Pouring non-freezing liquid into the washer fluid reservoir in winter, we hardly think about what it is.

Alexander BUDKIN

Eight samples of non-freezing liquids appeared before the final judgment (see photo). Five are of domestic origin, three are foreigners. The stated pour point ranges from -10 to -80 ° C, the price is from 20 to 120 rubles.

Two basic requirements for washers: do not freeze and wash. The first is not difficult to verify, but the second is more difficult, but here you can still carry out instrumental control. So, for the job …

The first test showed which of the low molecular weight monohydric alcohols is part of each potion. It turned out that six had poisonous methanol, and only two foreigners - Zenit and Wynn's - had ethyl and isopropyl alcohols, respectively (we need to take care of our health). The highest alcohol concentration is found in the most cold-resistant preparation, more precisely, the concentrate - Czech Zenit: it freezes only at -80 ° C (see table 1). Next are two more concentrates: Wynn's (-70 ° С) and Spectrol (-50 ° С at the declared -45 ° С). Next, there are four middle peasants with a pour point of -33 …- 36 ° C (stated -30 ° C). Closes the column the most heat-loving drug from the PCF "Chem-bot". He froze at -5 ° C (stated -10 ° C), but this is still no reason to consider it bad. The sample showed an extraordinary ability to wash, which justifies its year-round (not winter) use. By the way, it is possible that in the same cans the manufacturer packs up the “real” winter liquid.

The ability to wash was classified by three indicators. The first - surface tension - determined the ease of fluid spreading over the glass surface (the less the better). Here, the washer PKF “Chem-botll” and PG “Spectr Auto” proved to be the best, and the “Tekhnokhimservis” was the worst. When visually checking the shape of the droplet placed on the washed glass, the “Chem-botl” and Zenit samples (droplets completely spread) received an “excellent” rating, “Spectrol” (“the droplet spread out in the form of an irregular shape)”, “satisfactory” - “Tekhnokhimservis” and Wynn's (drops preserved in the form of an irregular shape), assessment … what else do we have there .., in general, the following - TOS Ltd; TOC and CBC 2000; JetGo (drops preserved in a shape close to the ball).

The second of the three indicators that determined the ability of our samples to wash is a pair of optical density values: pure product and contaminated, after rinsing in the last plate with calibrated pollution. The greater the difference, the more pollutant “absorbed” the washer. At the same time, the lower the absolute value of the optical density, the more transparent the liquid. Here, Zenit and Wynn's turned out to be outsiders, the others showed similar results to one degree or another.

Finally, the third indicator of washing ability is the wetting angle. It, as in the previous case, was determined twice: for clean and contaminated samples. In both cases, the smaller this angle, the better. Results: Wynn's, as well as TOS and CBC 2000, were a little worse than others, somewhere in the middle was TOS Ltd, everyone else was a little better.

That seems to be all, the tests are over. Each participant was given their own grades, but everyone got a “credit”. It remains to draw a common line.

Although in our country glass washing liquids are used mainly in winter, these preparations can be used when diluted in the warmer months. Even in the absence of detergent additives, a mixture of technical alcohol with water will turn out to be better than pure water in all the parameters mentioned today. Ah yes … except for the price.

1. Spectrol

PG "Spectrum Auto" (Russia).

A concentrated preparation with a pour point of -50 ° C (stated -45 ° C). Contains methanol. High efficiency is determined by good wetting, independent of the degree of contamination, and low surface tension. Price: about 20 rubles.

2. PKF "Chem-bot"

(Russia).

Ready-to-use product

with pour point -5 ° С

(stated -10 ° C). Contains methanol.

Pluses: good wetting, the most

low surface tension, high

washing properties. Price: about 35 rubles.

3. Car, Zenit (Czech Republic).

Concentrated drug

with the lowest pour point

-80 ° C (stated -80 ° C). Contains non-toxic

ethanol. Characterized by the best

by wetting, but with low detergents

properties. Price: about 120 rubles.

4. “Tekhnokhimservis” (Russia).

Ready-to-use product

with pour point -33 ° C

(stated -30 ° C). Contains methanol.

It has good wetting.

and high washing properties.

Price: about 30 rubles.

5. TOS Ltd (Russia).

Ready-to-use preparation with a pour point of -34 ° C (stated -30 ° C). Contains methanol. It features good wetting and high washing properties. Price: about 30 rubles.

6. PO “TOS” and “SVS 2000” (Russia).

Ready-to-use preparation with a pour point of -34 ° C (stated -30 ° C). Contains methanol. Detergents are good. Price: about 30 rubles.

7. Wynn's (EU).

A concentrated preparation with a pour point of -70 ° C (stated -70 ° C). Contains non-toxic isopropanol. It has good wetting, washing properties are ordinary. Price: about 40 rubles.
