How much does it cost to be a customer of a car service?
Maxim SACHKOV, Anton CHUYKIN
When calculating the cost of operating a car, we often do not take into account the work itself - they say, we will spend on spare parts, and we will carry out repairs on our own. But your own labor costs are by no means free. In addition, it is advisable to entrust the complex or voluminous operations to specialists, and then - it is not for nothing that the auto service developed so much, he has constant “breadwinners”! Those who regularly use the services of service stations, garage masters, etc., more.
WHERE THE PRICES GET
Once the catechism of service accounting was price list No. B 50, which established - according to science! - tough prices for all types of work. More than 10 years have passed since the last edition, however, even now many service station commanders keep plump volumes in drawers of the table. Of course, no one will regulate the valves for three rubles - they’ll figure out how prices have changed, how much is the current dollar, and for the lack of more modern documents, they will recalculate the cost of services. By the way, an illegal garage service also builds pricing on the B 50, sometimes without even knowing it. After all, the masters in the boxes do not set a price, just squinting their left eye. They are well aware of the cost of services of official competitors or pricing for similar models … based on the very price list.
But a wise master can always adjust the amount offered by a smart book. The price is affected by:
First, the demand. Sometimes a station or private owner will throw off a couple of gold coins to lure the client to him. The reverse situation: the service fee increases if a queue is built behind the gate.
Secondly, customer solvency. Looking around the motorist with the eyes of an experienced psychologist, the serviceman will understand what he is. Depending on the wealth of the customer, the price set by the price list creeps up or down.
Thirdly, the age of the car. Rusty nuts and bolts, breaking decrepit mounts will add a certain amount to the officially established. In some repair shops they add a few percent to the total cost of the work, in others they will take for the extra time spent on the struggle with “inseparable” compounds.
Finally, regular customers can count on a discount, as, however, are the "wholesalers" ordering a large amount of work.
So, the cost of repair or maintenance can vary up or down by 15–20% of the initial value. Let us leave the fascinating topic of pricing and move on to its results: the average cost of the services of a Moscow car service is given in table. one.
TAKE AN ORDER!
Prices for work depend on the dollar to a much lesser extent than, for example, the cost of spare parts. By the way, in the price lists of firms “at. e. ”can still be 10, 12, 15 whole rubles: a kind of way to fight inflation. Therefore, we will consider in rubles. Consider two price levels - service at an officially registered service station and illegal garages. Operations were selected if not the most popular, then indicative, by which you can judge the price of services that remained outside the scope of the review.
Some works require clarification. Adjusting the carburetor and ignition means not only meeting the toxicity standards, but also setting the fuel level, starting clearances, the ignition starting moment, the angle of the closed state of the contacts (where they are) - in general, to conduct the entire maintenance cycle.
A complete engine overhaul is what is commonly called a kapitalka, namely: dismantling, disassembling, troubleshooting, assembling with new parts without taking into account the cost of block boring (sleeves) and grinding the crankshaft. We do about the same with the box.
Bulkhead front suspension - replacement of springs, shock absorbers or struts, ball and rubber joints (the latter, if necessary, together with levers), stabilizer pads. In the steering, we update the drive - we change the traction with tips, the “pendulum" (except for front-wheel cars), we adjust the mechanism.
The last item in the “brakes” section includes the replacement of discs, drums, cylinders, hoses, pads, “brakes” and, naturally, pumping the system after such resuscitation.
SITTING ON THE “FIRST”
Traditionally, workshops and garages gravitate to a particular brand. There are few truly omnivorous service stations: judging by our statistics, VAZ’s products will be taken for repair by the first service point that is found, they’re less likely to take on Moskvich, and as for the Volga, this is a thing in itself, subject only to taxi fleets and state-owned fleets either come from there …
"Lada" - the machine most studied by the service, the "stove" in determining the cost of work for other models. We will take it as a starting point.
“Samara”, appearing much later, remained a dark horse for repairmen for a long time - in fact, like a “penny” in the early seventies. We dance from the “stove”: it’s more difficult to regulate the valves - we add 20-50% to the price, and sometimes the cost of new adjusting washers. Electronic ignition, which requires a minimum of attention, and the reputedly sissy carburetor give about the same amount of adjustment. There are fewer parts in the front suspension - naturally, repairing it will cost less than the Zhiguli one. The most noticeable difference in bodywork - the "Samara" bolted wings will be replaced even by a novice car mechanic.
Of the subjective factors - the prestige of “Samara” and (still!) The relative novelty, sometimes giving a plus to the price, which cannot be explained only by constructive differences from the “Lada”. All of the above is true for the "tens."
“Niva” differs from our “stove” in difficult access to individual components, a complicated and very expensive transmission to repair, an “incorrect” lower ball, a Solex and electronic ignition. The result is a tangible increase in the cost of services.
"Muscovite" - as simple as "Lada" and "Samara" combined. He absorbed the cheapest: prices for servicing the front suspension, steering are not higher than the "eight"; the cost of repair and adjustment of the Ufa engine is “Zhiguli” and even lower. If it was prestigious, it was just right to raise the price of services. And “Moskvich” would become the dream of a repairman.
"Volga" from the rank of the most expensive car save low prices for the maintenance of the "402nd" engine. By the way, his young rival ZMZ-406, if we consider only the work we have chosen, will cost even less - you do not need to adjust the valves and chains, there is no carburetor … Repair of other systems - transmission, steering, brakes - by an average of 15-30% more expensive "Lada". And there is no need to talk about the notorious front suspension of the Volga - a complete bulkhead will cost one and a half times more.
Having added the prices for the presented operations (we take the STO category), we get a certain conditional amount: in principle, it is possible to assess the maintainability of the car. The cheapest is Moskvich, the most expensive is Niva (see chart). Of course, if you go through all the pages of the “instruction manuals”, service books, and take into account the frequency of maintenance and the frequency of repairs, the picture will be more accurate … but it is unlikely to change fundamentally.
It is interesting that "in the garages" places were distributed somewhat differently. On the first - the same “Moskvich”, on the last - “Niva” again. But in the middle the situation is different: “Volga”, “Lada” and in the penultimate position of “Samara”. “Volga” (which is not only a car, but also a lifestyle) is mainly repaired by experienced craftsmen who have gotten their hands on this machine, and their rate is rather low. The owners of the "Lada", and even more so the "Samar" with the "tens" pay, in addition to repairs, for prestige - obviously, in garages it is valued higher. For complex work, which also requires special equipment, the illegal one will prefer not to take it or break the high price. In general, the services of masters from garages are lower than the official ones (it’s not worth explaining why): for “Samar” and “Niva” - about 20%, for the rest - almost 30%.
AWAY FROM MOSCOW!
Prices for car service in the province pleasantly surprise after Moscow. Of course, they can vary by region, regional centers are more expensive than small settlements, but on average they are one and a half to two times lower! It is no accident that Muscovites sometimes go to repair cars on a large scale to neighboring regional centers - my dear capital … Some positions are given in table. 2, compiled according to the results of a survey of readers of ZR. The patterns are the same as in Moscow.
