The Renault Megana family, which replaced the Renault 19, came in handy on the European market. The 1995 premiere determined the tremendous success of the entire family,

and the Scenic minivan, which debuted in the fall of 1996, only increased Renault's popularity. No wonder

It was he who became the “1997 Car”.

Now in the research, engineering and design bureaus of the company, work on new models of Meganes is in full swing. But in the future family we will not find the Scenic - it will become an independent model.

The success of the current "Stage" predetermined its future. The “independent” model, of course, will be nominal: the promising Megan and Laguna families will serve as a platform, which, in turn, will have much in common.

At first glance, the promising Scenic has lost the appearance of a minivan: it has a distinctly defined hood, and the whole stylistic structure of the body resembles a heavily downed wagon. In fact, the comfortable “bus” landing of the driver and passengers will be preserved, separate seats will be as well, and if you carefully look at the proportions of the body of the future car, you will notice: despite the hood, it still gravitates to modern concepts, which are based on the idea minivan. Moreover, the facets of many automobile classes are now so erased that sometimes it is simply impossible to clearly classify a particular novelty.

Renault specialists themselves are inclined to classify the Scenic as medium-sized mini-vans (they consider Twingo small and Espas large).

The design can easily guess the themes and ideas of the conceptual development of Renault in recent years. There is no doubt that Avantime motifs are present here, but one can notice the style of such an “ancient” (1995) ancestor as the hybrid Renault-Next. But the radiator lining, borrowed from the latest modernization of the family, and the headlight blocks will provide some continuity - a very important factor for successful sales.

The body structure will resemble the spatial frame of the FIAT-Multipl with metal panels hung. Lightweight construction using light alloys and plastics will increase power density. And the sandwich type floor will be preserved. About the all-wheel drive version is still unknown.

The range of engines will be common with the new Megan family, but the power range for the Scenic will be set from 90 to 200 liters. with., and the three most powerful engines - with direct injection of gasoline.

The most important thing is that about 5% of cars are planned to be equipped with a hybrid drive. Thus, the innovation “Renault” will “run in” on the consumer. With a positive result, this proportion can be increased.

A hybrid drive is being developed for the new "Scenic" based on the one used in the Next. Electric motors are built into the rear wheels, and the front wheels are driven by a low-power gasoline engine. Such a scheme will help significantly reduce toxicity, because the new Euro IV standards (2005) are not far off.

Once again, the Megan family replaced the Renault 19 in 1995. Starting with a simple hatchback (three- and five-door), Renault specialists gradually expanded the range of bodies. Today it consists of hatchbacks, a classic sedan, station wagon and convertible. The photo shows one of the first options for a car with a characteristic "face". A drop-down hood with an interesting punching, as if covering the two "nostrils" of the radiator lining, for several years determined the corporate identity of this family. This is just the case when the photograph does not convey the true beauty of the car. On the road, the Megane look more impressive and, if you like, more expensive.

The engine family covered the power range from 70 to 150 liters. with. with the possibility of aggregation with a five-speed manual gearbox or with a four-speed "automatic".

In the next photo - "Renault Megan Scenic", supplementing the family in 1996. It is worth mentioning especially about him. If the reader remembers, in 1991 the eponymous conceptual single-volume was demonstrated, the future of which was considered very vague. But the leading designer of Renault Patrick Le Quémen clearly realized that such a minivan was simply necessary for Europe. He had to endure a lot of controversy over a new car for Renault (Espace is still a big minivan), but common sense (or the majority of votes) turned out to be on his side, and he saw the project lying on the shelf for almost a year and a half shine.

The car turned out to be very successful, sales are constantly growing. It is no coincidence that some companies have already created similar minivans with dimensions differing by a few millimeters from Renault (Opel Zafira, Nissan Tino, for example). In almost three years, about 750 thousand copies were sold.

We briefly digress from the Scenic and talk about cars that somehow influenced the promising development. The following photo shows the 1995 conceptual development of Renault Next with a hybrid drive. In front of the car is a 48-horsepower three-cylinder (0.75 L) motor that drives the front wheels, and the rear wheels are equipped with electric motors. Depending on the driving mode, the processor connects one or another motor, and with the combined Next drive it reached 167 km / h. The main program was as follows: for starting off and accelerating to 40 km / h, electric motors were used, and then the internal combustion engine was connected. The car, of course, was very toxic and consumed 2 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

One can argue about his appearance, but it is clear that such style elements as almost vertical sidewalls, the pattern of the rear side windows, have switched to promising models.

And one more concept - Avantime, which we saw at the Moscow Motor Show last year. Looking closer, we note the same design themes, only resolved more boldly. It seems that Renault specialists are about to find a corporate identity that will determine the face of the French for a long time. Curiously, the linkers declared this one-compartment as a 2 + 2 coupe; it is clear that other body versions may appear, especially since the mass production of Avantime will soon begin.

Last year, cosmetic modernization of the entire Megan family took place. Now, the Scenic front end is quite different from the rest of the family and has clearly acquired independent features with a view to the future. He became, as it were, more solid.

And finally, the all-terrain vehicle Scenic RX4, which also debuted in 1999. Here the linkers tried. Despite the fact that there was a driveshaft going to the rear wheels, nothing has changed in the cabin: the floor was as smooth as it was. In the development of all-wheel drive with viscous clutch as an interaxle differential, the Austrian "Steyr" helped the French.

The appearance was changed by large side lining and new bumpers, but in fact - this is an upgraded Scenic.

Here, perhaps, are all the cars that in varying degrees influenced the appearance and design of the promising Scenic.
