In other words, the lack of comfort per se. So, maybe he will like the urban version of the Niva, created with the participation of the Moscow company OMX RR Tuning?

In this car, it was possible to achieve easy rotation of the steering wheel and at the same time an acceptable steering sensitivity. The power steering of the eminent German company ZF was used. True, it additionally loads the already not the most frisky motor. This is one of many reasons for a thorough refinement of the unit.

The creators of the city "Niva" modernized the engine, setting itself a rather difficult task: to get a power unit, maybe a little more powerful than the standard, but much more flexible and able to easily absorb loads. In addition, the resource, fuel efficiency should not suffer, and at the same time, the low cost and availability of spare parts should be preserved.

As a result, they abandoned risky technical solutions and prohibitive acceleration. The working volume of the serial VAZ 2121 3 engine was increased to 1800 cm due to a change in the piston stroke - a method well developed by the Volga Automobile Plant on the 2130 engine. Power system - distributive fuel injection with parts from the new Viva 2123, which is being prepared for production, . Only the air filter housing and the filter element itself are taken from the French Peugeot for layout reasons. Only the cylinder head was subjected to special training: the intake and exhaust channels, the combustion chamber, valve bushings were finalized and a British-made “torque” camshaft with modified phases and an adjustable gear of the gas distribution mechanism was installed. The engine brain is a GM serial computer with a set of sensors and a modified control program.

Another interesting novelty is the modified exhaust system configuration. The combination of the resonator from the 41st Moskvich and the native Nivov silencer made it possible to shorten and shift the pipeline. Now the characteristic exhaust haze can be seen on the right side of the body in front of the rear wheel. The free space under the floor of the cargo compartment after a little surgery turned into an additional luggage compartment.

Briefly list the remaining non-standard nodes of the city "Niva". This is an additional cooling fan controlled by the injection controller, a Sachs clutch, a Lockheed water pump, Ferodo brake pads, Bilstein shock absorbers, alloy wheels with low profile Gislaved tires with dimensions 205 / 55R16. A set of work was carried out to increase comfort. A number of body parts, including the engine compartment, are glued with sound-absorbing materials. The standard steering wheel has been replaced by the Italian SWM, electric windows and rear-view mirrors are installed.

Strengths and weaknesses (and how without them) of the city "Niva" can be estimated only by comparison. During testing on the special roads of the NICIAMT training ground, two competitors fought with the car. The first is the absolutely standard Niva VAZ 2121 3. The second is a real monster with a pickup body, prepared for sports competitions in 4x4 cars and jeepers on unlimited off-road terrain. Without going into details, we note that under the hood of this muscular apparatus is a fairly forced engine with two Weber carburetors, and the suspension, transmission and interior are simply stuffed with non-standard components.

You will find the results of our measurements in the table. In words, we add the following. On the move, the city "Niva" is a comfortable, friendly car with a complaisant character. Steering is a pleasure. Whatever you say, ZF is a world-famous company!

No plugs, dips, twitches characteristic of carburetor models are observed - even intense acceleration. The standard "Niva" is frankly behind, which is confirmed by the figures. The toughness of the modified engine on the "bottom" also deserves praise. In terms of elasticity, it is ahead of the factory VAZ 2121 3 with a margin, and in one of the modes even a sports pickup. Brakes tuning "Niva" is also better than that of competitors. In short, the resident of the metropolis will be satisfied - for the crowd in traffic jams, starts from traffic lights, frequent parking the car is well adapted. As for comfort, here we managed to fulfill our plan - the noise in the cabin is less, the ride is better than the rest.

But, alas, there are complaints. A too optimistic speedometer can be attributed to minor flaws - it has the biggest error, and to the greater side. The actual speed of the car is much less. The puncture is more significant - the lack of “tops” in the motor. Having famously typed 100 km / h, the car fades - the acceleration intensity decreases. The result is a loss to competitors at distances of 400 and 1000 meters, the lowest maximum speed. Who is to blame - an imperfect injection control program or an insidious "grassroots" camshaft from foggy Albion, one can only guess. One thing is clear - the generally pleasant “Niva” with a city slope should not be flawed on the highway. So, the creators of the car have something to work on.

It is worth mentioning a certain decrease in cross-country ability - the rejection of the noisy “toothy” VLI-5 tires in favor of the low-profile comfortable Gislaved did not go unnoticed. However, for dense off-road you can “change shoes” and fully enjoy the capabilities of a high-torque motor.

The conclusion is this: the tuning concept chosen by the company is quite interesting. In the end, few tried to seriously adapt the Niva to urban operating conditions and increase its comfort. And if you correct the shortcomings, then the price of such a car of 7.5 thousand dollars may be quite affordable for patriots of domestic all-wheel drive cars.
