VAZ 1111 test 3

Passion as you want a car or at least a typewriter.

Let the little one

if not prestigious,

but mine. Why, there are some! And they are quite inexpensive, almost half the price of the Zhiguli. Oh, it's decided! We take … Two!

Alexander BUDKIN, Andrey KOCHETOV

Two little girls, coming down from the conveyors of the Kama and Serpukhov factories, hardly guessed that a heavy burden of responsibility would fall on their fragile shoulders - to protect the honor of manufacturers in the eyes of the thousands of readers at the wheel. Side by side, these cars have to go through the thorns of a long “Zarulevsky” test. However, the first bridegroom has already taken place.

Before releasing brand new cars outside the gates of the car dealership, the trading party, at our request, eliminated the "minor defects". On the blue Serpukhov’s Oka, they replenished the Tosol level, replaced the emergency alarm button (didn’t work), screwed the protective caps onto the wheel nipples and presented the tool bag, borrowing it from one of the … Kamaz cars. On the Kama baby, they pulled up the generator belt, repaired the driver’s door lock mechanism (did not respond to the turn of the key), replaced the direction indicator relay and connected the speedometer. The latter, judging by the odometer, once worked, but the procedure for parting with a car dealership did not transfer.

The first serious test was waiting for the car the next day: the "young" went to the technical center for medical examination.

The therapist, having checked the pressure (in the tires), remained dissatisfied with the patients. If it was uniformly underestimated in the KAMAZ vehicle, then in the Seaz vehicle it was from 1.0 to 2.3 bar, with a norm of 1.8.

The optometrist cursed even more. On the Serpukhov Oka, the right headlight is poorly adjusted - it shines to the left of what is needed, on the Kama one - both eyes proudly look up, either at traffic signs, or at low-flying planes. In both cases, the deviations are not exorbitant (it is clear that the headlights were regulated), but instrumental control with such a vision of the machine is unlikely to pass.

The next in line is an orthopedist. The good doctor undertook with prejudice to check the gait of newborns: camber, toe and the longitudinal angle of the axis of rotation of the wheels (castor). At KAMAZ, the measured parameters were on the border of acceptable, but they seemed to fit into the norm. However, at the same time, the right wheel camber adjustment range was almost completely selected. SeAZ is doing worse in this sense. The collapse of the left wheel did not fit into the tolerance, and the toe-in exceeded the permissible limit by almost four (!) Times. At the same time, the steering wheel with "straight" wheels was by no means "straight".

Further examination revealed a host of other diseases. Among them there are annoying little things, there is a dangerous pathology. Let's start with common twigs.

Many heard about the poor fit of body parts in Russian subcompacts, penetrating water into the cabin and other horrors, and the magazine has written about this more than once. Our "body" problems are not so terrible (see photo): on the Serpukhov "Oka" the hood lid seems to be borrowed from another car, on the KAMAZ - between the back door and the body the box of matches easily passes. The door locks are poorly adjusted on it, and on the rival - the hood lock. However, this is not the worst. Much more trouble bodes another common misfortune - the low quality of domestic components. The fact that several lamps and fuses burned out on both cars in the first week turned out to be faulty, the emergency button and the three-position heater fan mode switch are trifles. But the fact that on a Kama car a gearbox leaks at the junction (it seems that the attachment planes are poorly processed), and on the Serpukhov one - increased axial play of the left drive, is no longer a trifle. Add “small” assembly flaws here. On the Kama Oka, there is a backlash in the hub of the left front wheel, the right door with difficulty closing, mixed wires on the “chip” of the rear right lamp; on Serpukhovskaya - a poorly adjusted engine (late ignition, increased toxicity), a non-welded spare wheel nut (when you turn off the wheel, falls on asphalt or in snow), an loose vacuum corrector hose and the front direction indicator diffuser mounted upside down (despite the clear inscription " top"). For both cars, the exhaust system "cuts" along almost all joints, the "mass" from the battery is put on the paint, and the clutch is "enough" under the ceiling. Not good!

Well, scolded, rightly, but not so bad. True fans of domestic technology will surely notice that in places cars are collected very much nothing. Modern clamps on the pipes of the cooling system and normally balanced wheels are pleasantly pleasing. The Serpukhov car “not in Soviet style” is well painted, the Kama car is equipped with a large 55 A.h battery (we hope this is not an accident). Nevertheless, the main advantage of the cars is its low price: a new car for some 1300 conventional units! If the price were even lower, the engine would probably be in the trunk. However, another thing is interesting: if the buyer ever agrees to pay twice as much, but requires perfect assembly, can any of our manufacturers provide it? Or does this question seem premature to you? If so, we stock up on repair instructions and - go ahead on new domestic cars.

1.2. The body parts on both machines are poorly fitted.

3. The lock puts a dent in the bonnet of both cars. On KAMAZ - a little stronger.

4. Crazy bullets flew in the trunk of a Serpukhov car.

5. Kama "Oka" boasts a large battery …

6 …. Serpukhovskaya - rear fog lamp.

7. The handbrake is ordinary. Further savings would lead to the abandonment of it.

High quality paint, rear fog lamp.

Axial play of the left drive, poorly adjusted engine, wheel alignment, pedal assembly.

Convenient jack (from VAZ 2110), 55 A.h battery, tool bag.

Backlash of a nave of a left forward wheel, a transmission leaks at a joint, headlights and the lock of a right door are poorly adjusted.

Our reference

COMPARISON OF TWO SERVICE BOOKS leads to slight bewilderment. The declared estimated resource and service frequency differ by 20 and 50%, respectively: at KAMAZ - 8 years or 120 thousand km at a service frequency of 10 thousand km, at Seazovskaya - 6 years or 100 thousand km at a service time of 15 thousand km ???

By the standards

Russian car industry both

cars are assembled on … three with a plus.

They can ride, but instrumental control is “new”
