At VAZ, small-scale production of a small representative car based on the "ten" was mastered.


Attempts to “grow” a noble limousine from a serial car seem to sin all our car factories. We already talked about what comes of this in ZR, 1999, No. 9. Today we’ll talk more about the “Premiere” VAZ 2110 8.

LOOK FROM INSIDE. Naturally, a car with a claim to nobility to its dignified user is primarily interesting as a means of comfortable movement. The rear seat has particular attention. Settling on it “foot to foot”, it tempts you to poke a driver-coachman with a cane in the old films about bourgeois - Vasily, drive to the Yar! But seriously, the additional 175 mm of body length given to the legs of the rear seat passengers gives them more freedom than on the prototype. However, you can’t call the landing quite comfortable at all - in motion you always slide back and forth until you reach a position of stable equilibrium. At the same time, the back deviates back and the former ceiling is very close “does not press” on the head. And it would be necessary to remodel the seat quite a bit - put the pillow slightly forward (30–50 mm) and lower it a little (15–20 mm), and leave the upper point of attachment of the back in place, thereby increasing its tilt.

At the same time, a glance from the back of the rear seat catches out minor assembly flaws in the interior of the car - some screw is not twisted or a click in the instrument panel. These technical details are unnecessary for the VIP passenger, therefore, the requirements for the quality of work are higher here.

Another remark lurks behind an armrest hidden in the back. As soon as he was thrown back, he pulled a grave cold from the trunk through the opened cracks. The flimsy plastic manhole cover that communicates the interior with the trunk, and on the “top ten” is no good, and even on the “Premiere” at all. At the same time, in the back of the seat of a noble car, a minibar would be perfectly harmonious. However, if the armrest is not reclined, there is enough heat behind.

And if Premier gets into personal use? Today, any wealthy person can buy it. Would she like to? Indeed, in this case, all the additional comfort will go to households, friends and certainly not the owner. His place will be behind the wheel.

We get here too. Everything is unchanged here. However, in the Premier’s administration it is practically no different from the usual “ten”, more precisely, “one hundred and third”. The increased base does not give itself away - acceleration, braking, maneuverability - everything, as on the "standard". Only a fully loaded machine makes the “twelfth” motor “tighten”, delaying the acceleration in intermediate gears - a low moment on the “bottom” affects.

On a slippery road, it turned out that the top speed when cornering slightly increased. At the same time, the machine, while retaining understeer, begins to “slip” later than its ancestor and behaves quite docilely. And glides, if they arise, are smoother, more gentle and easily manageable than on the usual “ten”. This effect is partly due to the increased torsional rigidity of the body. However, even after such a "grope", you understand that the "Premier" is still designed for a power ride. An additional four points didn’t just extend the “one-third”, but, judging by our feelings, made a completely different car from it.

PRODUCTION. The Premiere body is welded on stocks in the VAZ experimental production department. Here he comes in bulk. Part of the parts is cut, to then edify. However, traces of lengthening are not visible externally - the roof and the outer panels of the rear doors are solid.

The welded body is suspended on a factory conveyor for primer and painting. After that, they remove it and deliver it to the SuperAvto company, where it turns into a car. Let's observe this process. How does it differ from the conveyor assembly of the VAZ 2110 3?

First of all, workers, using factory technology, paste glass into the body. The only difference is that on the conveyor degrease the glass and apply glue to the robots. But in “SuperAvto” after these operations the body “rests” the night until the next working day, which contributes to better glue polymerization. At the beginning of the shift, the body is put on a special gurney and fed to the assembly, where it is waiting for a trolley with a full set of parts relying on the “Premiere” - this is one of the features of manual assembly. Everything is at hand, forgetting to put something is impossible.

These machines are assembled carefully - without conveyor rush. The assembly costs of “one hundred and three” and “one hundred and eighth” differ slightly: the first takes about 32 standard hours, the second takes a little more than 36. The total assembly time of the “Premiere” is 24 hours, and 21103 on the main conveyor is only 6 hours. But about 800 people participate in the assembly of the car on one “thread” of the conveyor, and only 30 in SuperAvto! Another quality condition is the individual responsibility of the assemblers. In a special document against each operation - the name and signature of the artist. Thanks to this, you can always calculate the "author" of a possible defect.

The finished car goes through all the adjustments - headlights, front wheel angles, toxicity. “Visited” power and brake stands. Then check the body for water tightness in the "sprinkler", run in at least 50 km and eliminate the identified defects.

Some of the cars are assembled according to pre-paid orders - they can be immediately equipped with leather seats, a German power steering company ZF, an air conditioning system “Frost”, a sunroof and much more.

In general, and as an assembly, equality is not obtained between the VAZ 2110 8 and VAZ 2110 3. After all, the Premier is a hand-made car - manual assembly.

Premier is our first car with improved rear-passenger boarding options designed for officials. The VAZ 2110 9 limousine, extended by 300 mm compared to 2110, does not count, it is a piece machine.

VAZ 2110 8 confirmed the possibility of assembling a large car on the main conveyor, because all the cars grow every year and we have a certain reserve here.

In addition, the VAZ 2110 8 is a kind of laboratory on wheels for testing and implementing new solutions. Power steering, air conditioning, sixteen-valve engine 21124 with a working volume of 1600 "cubes" - this is a list of major new products, the development of which before putting on the conveyor takes place on the VAZ 2110 8. And you can’t count the little things. For example, we are introducing new, more durable door hinges, soft bushings on the axes of door locks so that the cotton is softer when they are closed, and so on. New door upholstery, a soft overlay on the instrument panel are in turn.

We know the flaws. In the near future, we will change the back seat: move it forward, increase the backrest. In addition, we will focus on the quality of the interior.

Chrome will reappear in the elements of the external decoration, and in the interior there will be wood-like decor and nowadays carbon fiber. So there are enough worries for the foreseeable future. And a new idea looms ahead, the VAZ 2111 8 - an extended station wagon with a high roof, possibly an all-wheel drive …

The back seat is spacious, almost like in a limousine.

Additional noise insulation covers almost the entire front shield.

On the rear doors, power window control keys are integrated into the handles …

… and below special flashlights shine under the feet.

Thanks to this additional frame between the rear wheel arches, the body stiffness 21108 is increased compared to 21103 by 17%.
