It was Volvo's Eastate model (as the Swedes call station wagons) that have always been the highlight of the production program. Who said that foreign cars are not suitable for our roads? “Volvo”, without flinching “muscle”, literally swallows holes, cracks and other obstacles on our crushed asphalt. I used to go here on brand new “Lada” and “Samara” - the roar was unimaginable.
Manageability is again just praise. In motion, the station wagon is maneuverable and light, like a meringue cake. The power steering is just the way you need it. Here it’s just right to say something else: how the car is prepared for the salty winter roads of Russia. A thin zinc-containing film is applied to the beams, ducts, cross members, hidden cavities. The hood is completely aluminum (!). It will not rust in places of chipped paint from blows of stones flying from under the wheels. The fifth door of the station wagon is made of plastic. Here, of course, there can be no talk of any corrosion. In addition, the door, in comparison with the metal, is not so massive, which means it is easier to open and close.
We will not dwell on the traditional Swedish passive safety kit. Here, Volvo never changes tradition. All the newest and most advanced in the wagon, of course, is. What, say, are step airbags that inflate depending on the force of the impact.
And now a little about the interior. Let's start with the trunk. Here again, the same volume and size, beloved by customers, is more than 480 liters. This is when it is comfortable, cozy, elegant, even prestigious, but by no means too luxurious and not tasteless.
Unfortunately, a few far from teaspoons of tar in a barrel of honey was found in the cabin, more precisely, in the ergonomics of the driver’s workplace. The armrest between the front seats makes the long-arm shift gears with a brush movement - you have to get used to it for a long time. Not everyone will be delighted with the location of the hand brake lever - it happens that it rests on the right foot. A tall major driver could not find the optimal adjustment of the seat and steering column. Either the steering wheel lies on its lap, or it hides the speedometer and tachometer from its eyes. The legs are too bent, and if they are straightened, the hands barely reach the controls. A handle is located above the pilot's seat on the side of the ceiling. If you are not short, you run the risk of knocking your temple - it is too close to the head.
The final complaint: both the inside and the outside mirrors are too small. In part, parking sensors mounted in the rear bumper compensate for this shortcoming. But all the same, I would like to have larger “burdocks”.
Well, they criticized lightly. As without flaws, he who does nothing is not mistaken. And the rest - your favorite dimensions, expressive appearance, cool family car. Swedes are able to create station wagons, you will tell nothing.
