Which parts or components are the best? Of course, those that during operation do not remind themselves. Unfortunately, this can not be said about the front suspension of cars of the "tenth" family. Here is a standard set of complaints: the wheels are set to “float away”; it is not possible to correctly adjust the longitudinal angle of inclination of the axis of rotation of the wheel (castor); during sharp braking, the tires are scratched along the lower part of the flanging of the front wings. That is the trouble of average drivers. Demanding, in addition to the above, is not satisfied with handling. Like, the predecessor - the beloved "eight" or "nine" - reacted to the slightest movement by the wheel, and the VAZ 2110 is too thoughtful. Is it possible to correct his character, without resorting to a radical modernization of the suspension?

The simplest way is to install a spacer between the shock absorber support cups. The part can be mounted in minutes on any model of the “tenth” family (photo 1, 2). The idea is simple: by connecting the elements of the body with a powerful pipe, thereby increasing the rigidity of the front part. Struts are found in retail: in the car market of the capital - 600-800 rubles, depending on the version, quality of painting and mood of the seller.

In order not to run into a very artisanal craft, we purchased a part in the Sport-Tuning company. There we were offered another treatment option for the “tens” - to establish a modified suspension cross-member. What does it give?

We take a standard beam (catalog number 2110–2904400 or 2112–2904400) and perform the following manipulations with it. Strengthening brackets are reinforced with additional scarves (photo 3, item 1). We remove the serial cushions of the front hinges (2108–2904050). Instead, we weld metal sleeves into brackets, into which we then press in the rear extension hinges (2108–2904046; photo 3, item 2). As a result, we increase the stiffness, and instead of large malleable elastic bands now smaller, harder ones. Stretch movements should be much reduced. Along the way, we increased the range of castor adjustments. Without delving into the theory, we note that the benefit from this is obvious - the larger (within reasonable limits!) The angle of the longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation, the better the handling and the less likely that wheel brakes will hit the tires when braking.

It will take about an hour to complete the assembly with a modified tuning company. It will require a lift or pit; inevitable and the adjustment of the camber.

And now we’ll tell you how all these innovations showed themselves on the go. The editorial VAZ 2111 and VAZ 2110 3 took part in the tests. The station wagon was laden with the full program, but the sedan got only a spacer: the crossbars to the “one hundred and third” turned out to be super deficit. Both cars on the special roads of the NICIAMT training ground performed a “rearrangement” maneuver that imitated avoiding an obstacle. You will find the results in the table. In addition to test races, in which they received numbers for comparison, the cars were operated under normal conditions. Here is the opinion of our experts.

Option one - standard equipment. While moving in a straight line, the wagon VAZ 2111 pleases with comfort and copes with most road irregularities perfectly. But during maneuvers, he is characterized by large rolls, a roll and considerable delays in relation to the actions of the driver. In extreme situations, the car is so heavy and lazy that it completely discourages any desire for temperamental driving. It suits many: the station wagon is a calm family car. Worse if someone is in a hurry, moreover, with an empty interior and trunk.

Against this background, the VAZ 2110 3 sedan has an almost sporty character. However, it is worth bringing the matter to the squeal of tires, as the “hot ten” also becomes limp and loose in management, which, of course, will not please the active driver.

Both cars are pretty prowling with intense acceleration, especially the "one-third." Taxiing is excluded in these modes - the machine practically does not respond to minor steering deviations.

But between the cups of shock absorbers, a spacer was installed. The wagon wagon has noticeably changed. No, VAZ 2111, of course, does not reach the projectile for aerobatics, but in his responses to the actions of the driver, inclinations of understanding appeared. The car sharpened, especially at low steering angles, became more predictable in the slides. We change to VAZ 2110 3. Here the influence of the strut is even more noticeable. In addition to improved steering accuracy, more or less clear reactions to the addition or discharge of gas have appeared. Pay for pleasure - increased vibration. The body began to rattle, creak upholstery, louder to respond to the road "trifle". Looking ahead, we note - the benefits of installing stretch marks outweigh the disadvantages. It allows the “one hundred and third” to perform the “rearrangement” maneuver very confidently. The VAZ 2110 3 with strut option in this exercise was much better than any other.

We move on to the next experiment - remove the stretch and install the modified cross member. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for the VAZ 2110 3. The station wagon, having received a modernized part, suddenly became sensitive and obedient. Moreover, in his character, which began to take shape in the previous version, fighting qualities suddenly erupted. The car holds a predetermined trajectory well, accurately responds to steering wheel rotation and gas pedal movement. In a word, now it’s easy and pleasant for them to control not only on the line, but also in the corners. Of course, the heavy station wagon cannot be compared with the “eight” predicting thoughts and desires, but nevertheless he approached it in its capabilities. Acceleration behavior is also unusual: no yaw, but an immediate reaction to steering actions. The impression that even slippage is less.

In general, I like everything - until you get into minor bumps. Here the bagel begins to break free from vibrations. The body also suffers no less. He flinches literally from every pebble on which the wheel ran over - the suspension is too diligent, “adamant” thanks to the modified beam, transmits tremors. Moreover: the fairly straight and well-balanced (as we thought) front wheels suddenly remind of themselves at a speed of 100-120 km / h with a characteristic shake. Really weights flew off? No, on the spot. And with a standard beam, the vibrations were barely noticeable.

Toward the close of the curtains, the last option is to add a spacer to the upgraded cross-bar. Surprisingly, with this combination, the wagon's behavior has not changed for the better. The ultimate speed of the "rearrangement" of the VAZ 2111 is now lower than individually with a beam or spacer! But still higher than that of the car as standard. What else? Delays on steering actions have increased, the tendency to skid the rear axle has increased. In critical situations, the wagon again became heavier, ceased to react sensitively to the actions of the driver, in general, acquired excessive independence.

So is it necessary to try to cure the "top ten", and if so, then what? Well, our choice: the spacer between the shock absorber cups certainly has a positive effect on the ride quality of the “tenth” family cars. A slight increase in vibration load is a reasonable payment for gaining a driver-machine relationship. Operation also confirmed that the strut does not adversely affect the suspension geometry. It will not become the reason for frequent visits to the “similarity collapse”. Just a warning: when buying this item on the market, immediately try it on a car. Not all stretch marks that are easily placed on cars with an injection engine will fit the model with a carburetor: the “pan” of the air filter may interfere.

With a modified crossbar more difficult. Its positive influence is undoubtedly, however, you will not lose the negative aspects from the account. This detail is asked for the "top ten", which is prepared for the greenhouse conditions - smooth asphalt, smooth highways, cast, balanced "zero" wheels. If there is no such guarantee, then in addition to the crossbar, a deep (and expensive) suspension upgrade will be required, not to say the whole car, for specific operation features. And the selection of springs, shock absorbers, anti-roll bar - the lot of specialists; owners should not undertake such work.
