According to their capabilities, hand winches are divided into two types: traction and hoisting. As the name implies, the former can only pull, the latter, in addition to this, raise and lower loads.

LR-300/600 power engineering plant from Chekhov, traction TR-800 of an unknown manufacturer and a mysterious imported winch. Judging by the bar code, the latter was made in the Netherlands (although the country is not indicated on the packaging), it was attributed by the manufacturer to lifting and traction, although experts unequivocally classified it as traction. In addition, it generously promises a force of 1000–2000 kgf, where a ton is the maximum force when lifting a load, two tons when creating traction in a horizontal plane. By the way, in domestic winches, fractional values ​​are deciphered differently. The Chekhov LR-300/600 has a rated force of 600 kgf - when using the chain hoist included in the kit, 300 kgf - without it. The Saratov LR-300/500 has 500 kgf in the configuration with a “powerful” cable, 300 kgf in the version with a “weak” one.

WHO HAS ANYTHING?

We weight candidates with dynamometers and simulate pulling a car out of a quagmire. First of all, we will be interested in the pull on the hook and the effort on the handle.

The product of the Saratov "Auto-Doublet" with a worm gear closed by a plastic casing turned out to be the most convenient to use, and it looks more aesthetically pleasing than others. The design makes it possible to choose between two gear ratios (shutting off the gearbox): less for winding and reeling, more for creating traction. We take the handle: the declared 300 kgf are achieved with a handle force of 10 kgf. We rotate further, the second nominal value - 500 kgf (for a more powerful cable) will require 18 kgf from the car enthusiast. A little more - and we reach 20 kgf on the handle. This is considered a normal effort for an adult. The dynamometer fixes 600 kgf on a hook. With this value, plastic deformations appeared in the winch mechanism (photo 1), but a further increase in load is still permissible. We continue the torture: 650, 700 … everything, the "thin" cable could not stand it! Those who saw the cables burst are probably uncomfortable. The rest we wish never to see this. In our case, it’s scary not that the cable still burst, but that it happened at 700 kgf. According to GOST 3068–88 with a cable 4.5 mm thick, such an event should have occurred only with a force of 1125 kgf. The difference, note, is not 5-10%, but 1.6 times! No, there are no complaints against the winch manufacturer, he promised only 300 kgf, but who made the cable?

Further mockery of the winch (already with a different cable) led to its breakdown with a pulling force of 800 kgf. In this case, the force on the handle reached 30 kgf. To develop such a force by rotating the winch handle with one hand and holding the winch in the other, it is quite difficult for a person of average proportions. In general, the product is worthy of a rating of "five with a minus." A clean “five” would have deserved if there had been a stronger cable - a mechanism breakdown is still safer than a cable break.

Does the LR-300/600 behave somehow? Its worm gear is open "to the public." In the version without chain hoist, nominal 300 kgf are obtained with a handle force of 13 kgf. At 18 kgf on the handle, the winch gives out 600 kgf. In this case, the rotation force is transmitted to the body: the further, the more difficult it is to hold it. Now with an additional block - polyspast. “Passport” 600 kgfs are achieved here by applying a force of 11 kgfs. At 14 kgf the winch gives out 800 kgf, and already at 880 kg … a four-millimeter cable breaks (it must withstand 975 kgf). For this, a person will not have to strain especially - 16 kgs is possible for many. Shortly after the cable - at 900 kgf - the hook began to straighten. But it would be safer on the contrary. Perhaps this winch will put "four plus."

The third challenger is an unknown traction winch marked TR-800. The design is credible - six-meter brackets seem to withstand the truck. But the appearance is depressing - rusty, as if found in a landfill. Here you need to pull the handle, not twist. Pipes entering one another will smoothly change the gear ratio of the winch. If you can reach the nominal 800 kgf with a short handle (45 cm long), then you can probably go bear with your bare hands - after all, the effort on the handle will exceed far beyond 70 kgf. We extend the handle to a length of 54 cm. Accepted at the norm of 20 kgf will now allow us to "pull out" 300 kgf from the winch. If the applied force is doubled, we get 600 kgf. Grandma for grandfather, grandfather for turnip … 800 kgf with a handle force of 55 kgf. The denomination is good - you see, the warriors have not yet been transferred to Russia. Pull further: cable break at 880 kgf, similar to the previous sample. For a cable - this is a failure, for a winch … perhaps, it will not reach a clean "Quartet". Put "four with a minus."

The turn of the overseas winch came. The first thing that caught my eye was an ultra-short cable. If the length of the Russian samples is on average more than 5 m, then that of a foreigner is only 0.88 m. In addition, the stamp is not removed from the stamped parts. In a word, it is hard to believe in the European origin of this specimen, although completely in foreign ones.

Attached to the handle 20 kgf allowed to achieve a force of 500 kgf. If you have enough spirits for 30 kgs, you’ll get 700 on the hook, like us - but … here the winch handle bent helplessly helplessly - flimsy, it could not withstand more. But the cable (by the way, galvanized) with a diameter of 4 mm withstood 1100 kgf. One can see, indeed, the import one - as the cables in Russia do, three domestic winches clearly demonstrated. But, despite the good cable, the claimed 2000 kgs seem like someone’s evil joke. Even to the first face value (1000 kgf) the product did not reach (photo 2). Given that the received 700 kgfs in comparison with competitors is an acceptable result, we put a solid “three”.

TRACTION QUALITIES ARE IMPORTANT BUT …

Among the criteria for evaluating winches, the most important, in our opinion, is safety: the probability of cable breakage should be minimized. From this point of view, the Saratov winch is better than others and … foreign. In Russia, plastic deformations of the mechanism began when the nominal load was doubled, and only then did the cable break. Moreover, both troubles occurred when the efforts on the handle exceeding 20 kgf, which makes such a breakdown unlikely in real use. The "Foreigner" acts on the same principle: at 20 kgf on the handle it honestly gives out a force of 500 kgf, at 30 kgf it starts to bend, not allowing the owner to bring the case to a cable break. The third place on this list is in the nameless Russian product, one that resembles a piece of rusty iron. To break the cable from the owner will require a force of over 60 kgf. Probably, the manufacturer decided that a kid capable of such a feat would not be afraid of a broken cable. But then why do such a well done guy winch? Closes the list of the safest powerful winch from Chekhov. There is power … then you yourself know. The Saratov “Auto-Doublet” again goes to the list of the most convenient ones in the first place. But in the list of the cheapest it will be the last.
