When choosing tires, you must take into account the driving style, operating conditions of the car. And the test results are not dogma, but only a guide for the buyer.


This test was conceived under the GAZ 3111. It was to the advent of the new Volga that tire manufacturers mastered 205 / 65R15 tires. For a number of reasons (objective and not very) the "eleventh" was delayed.

Therefore, the GAZ 3110 acts as an aggregate carrier, shod in unusually wide tires for it. By the way, they look much better on the machine than standard ones, giving it solidity and at the same time some sophistication. Wheel-tire tuning has always been one of the favorite activities of our motorists, so the new dimension will certainly attract their attention.

It's time to introduce the applicants, of which there are already five. These are the products of tire factories from Nizhnekamsk, Volzhsky, Kirov, Yaroslavl and Moscow. All tires of the same dimension - 205 / 65R15, all are designed for summer operation. Moreover, unanimity is observed even in the tread pattern - a kind of ingenuous set of longitudinal and transverse grooves. Only the Yaroslavl tire stands out from the general, frankly asphalt style with an unusual rough design.

The tires had to work hard. Using measuring equipment, we evaluated the adhesion properties on dry and wet surfaces, compared their effect on appetite, traction and dynamic capabilities of the car, evaluated handling and comfort, and measured the level of external noise. All this is presented in tables and graphs. We will try to formulate our driving experience.

"Kama-206." Absolutely faceless, uninteresting for the Volga driver with a surprisingly noisy and uninformative power steering, shod in the Kama-206, it suddenly acquires a character. As far as possible, the car exactly follows the driver’s commands, quite clearly follows the given trajectory. At the same time, a kind of feedback appears on the steering wheel, which allows you to feel the car, though not as we would like, but still … The car is clear and obedient both on the line and in the corners. Even if a slip occurs, the driver fully controls the situation. The payment for this is a rather noisy and tough passage of bumps, the nature of which the Volga diligently informs the driver.

Opinion about the "Kame-206" as a "driver" bus was confirmed by "rearrangement". There is only one complaint: on a wet surface a rather sharp, stretched skid appears, requiring hard driving from the driver. But be that as it may, it seemed that it was “206” that claims to be the sole leader. Alas, the brake tests shook the position of the Nizhnekamsk tire - on a dry surface it has only the third result. On the “water” the situation improved, but still the tire did not reach the clean first place. Such operational indicators as elasticity and fuel efficiency do not look the best in her. "Kama" is a little, but still inferior to the rest.

VS-20 is the exact opposite of the Kame. The tire pleases with the excellent passage of small irregularities, but for the active driver it is completely uninteresting. Now, in turns, you have to work more intensively with the wheel, turning it at a larger angle, and delays in the reactions of the machine have increased. In general, the Volga with the VS-20 looks like a leisurely and clumsy vehicle. But on a straight line it goes like "on rails" at any speed.

At the “rearrangement” sluggish reactions noticeably complicate the life of the driver, and even on wet surfaces, where the tire clings to the asphalt, the laziness of the car does not allow driving as confidently as on the Nizhnekamsk “206”. Where the VS-20 really rehabilitates itself is in the brake test. Here, its advantage is undeniable, especially on wet surfaces. It is this tire that has the most stable and best results. The VS-20 is also commendable from other positions. It has moderate fuel consumption and the best, at least in comparison with the previous tire, elasticity.

K-178. The Barguzin is very similar in nature to the VS-20. The same pensive attitude towards the driver’s commands and the very soft passage of rough roads. The same perfectly reliable movement in a straight line and the same complaints about handling. First, you notice an active unwillingness of the car to enter the turn, and then, when a consensus seems to be reached, a rather sharp skid of the rear axle suddenly appears. In general, Barguzin does not like large lateral accelerations.

Even greater trouble lay in wait on a wet surface. Here K-178 very quickly loses points. At the “rearrangement”, the car’s behavior becomes slurred, and the sliding becomes sharp and extended in time. The Volga is controlled as if remotely, separately from the driver’s commands. The same thing happens with the brakes. If the dry land “Barguzin” shows one of the best results, then suddenly it begins to actively “swim” on the water. Naturally, such “mood swings” do not contribute to high marks. It's a shame. In terms of noise, the K-178 is the most comfortable, and in the rest it looks quite decent.

I-546 left a double impression: on the one hand, it showed very good results, and on the other - it appeared the most noisy, tough, in general, some kind of rude …

The reactions of the Yaroslavl tire are fast and sharp, while in the Nizhny Novgorod car they are sluggish and slow. They did not agree on the characters, and … it became quite difficult to drive a car, especially on a straight line and in smooth, gentle turns. The driver’s condition is transferred to the car, and at high speeds the Volga begins to scour. In fast corners, the situation is somewhat improving. And although at the limit the car frankly glides out of the turn, almost without reacting to the correction of the steering wheel, it is quite simple to control. Where I-546 practically does not cause complaints, it’s on a “reshuffle”. Quick reactions and small steering angles are what you need for the accuracy of this maneuver. Here, the Yaroslavl tire confidently fights with the leaders, freely achieving good results. The tire behaves clearly and unequivocally during emergency braking. Even on "water" its results are very stable.

M-247, being the lightest, out of competition in fuel consumption and elasticity. The Volga on these tires rolls easily and reacts very lively to the movements of the accelerator pedal. But the Moscow tire does not reach clear and unambiguous reactions of the Nizhnekamsk tire, it does not have the speed of the Yaroslavl, although in general it provides the car with fairly reliable movement in space. Only yawning at high speed, and earlier, compared to the rest, the onset of slippage is cooled by especially hot driver's heads. At the "reshuffle" also without much surprises. Only an early and sharp skidding of the rear axle hints at a very mediocre grip. This is confirmed by the first brake measurements. The worst result compared to other tires, even on dry surfaces, speaks for itself.

The Moscow tire openly “falls through” on the “water” too - its loss along the braking distance is already dangerously dangerous. The tire locks very early and, most unpleasantly, it unlocks for a long time when the brake pedal is released, making the car almost uncontrollable. She doesn’t look the best on a wet “rearrangement”. At first, stable and clear reactions of the car with speed increase are suddenly blurred, and the car starts to “float” openly, practically not responding to the driver’s commands. In general, on the "water" M-247 behaves worse than everyone.


This time, there was no ideal shoe for the Volga. Giving priority to security, our applicants can be divided into three groups. The first will get Kama-206 and VS-20. Despite a completely different nature, in our opinion, they are best suited for the GAZ 3110. “Kama-206” is, first of all, the feeling of a car, clear and clear responses to the actions of the driver. Even medium braking performance cannot ruin the impression of this tire. VS-20 is a quality factor and stability, comfort and good braking. If you could combine the qualities of the first and second - then, look, you would get a great tire!

Next pair: I-546 and K-178. And again ice and fire came together. The Yaroslavl tire captivates with an enviable speed of reactions, but at the same time it is the most noisy and vibro-loaded. K-178 is, first of all, softness and comfort, as well as very good grip on dry asphalt. However, water dispels all the virtues of Barguzin.

And finally, the M-247. With very good indicators of profitability and elasticity, it, unfortunately, does not tolerate wet asphalt, giving the driver a lot of trouble.
