SHORT TRADING DICTIONARY
To navigate the market, you need to know its language.
Looking through advertisements and price lists, talking with employees of car dealerships, a potential buyer is faced with special terms: they were put into circulation by sophisticated sellers. Ignorance of vocabulary sometimes leads to disappointment: the real cost of the car is higher than planned.
Factory, they are also holiday prices - the prices at which manufacturers sell cars to trading companies. Factory prices are indicative. The final cost depends on the duration and warmth of the manufacturer’s relationship with a particular company, the configuration and the number of machines purchased.
Contrary to popular belief, the car will not be sold to an ordinary buyer at the plant - manufacturers do not sell at retail. To save, and not always, it is possible by going to the homeland of cars (see ZR, 2000, No. 4, 5). The smallest allowances are usually in reputable firms with a large turnover. However, sometimes “retail” is less than “wholesale”. About this - below.
In the price lists for foreign cars sometimes also indicate the factory value. This landmark is very far away. Delivery, insurance in transit and customs will change the amount almost beyond recognition.
CIF prices. Mysterious for most abbreviations are used quite rarely and, mainly, for expensive, exclusive cars. The abbreviation (from the words "cost", "insurance" and "freight") means that the price includes shipping costs to Russia. Strictly speaking, the term CIF refers to maritime transport; its overland counterpart is CPT. But for buyers this is not important, but the fact that the specified amount will have to add the cost of customs clearance and sales tax.
Dealer prices. They are the ones that are retail or those closest to them. The legislation does not distinguish between official dealers and other sellers (for foreign cars - importers). However, shops and service stations of dealers, especially foreign firms, must satisfy certain requirements agreed with the factories. Prices in such stores are sometimes higher than those of sellers who are not burdened with a special relationship with the manufacturer. This is a payment for legal reliability, the fulfillment of all warranty obligations. It is more difficult to get satisfaction from “gray” sellers.
Machines delivered by dealers on request are usually no more expensive than those already in stock (ZR, 2000, No. 7).
The full cost of a domestic car, that is, the amount payable, often depends on a variety of markups - for color, equipment, tires (ЗР, 2000, No. 3). It is about this final price of a particular car that you need to consult with sellers.
Prices below factory. Such ads, although rare, are still found. A few years ago, when money became the main deficit in the country, the factories settled with machines related to them. And sometimes they just changed cars for other goods. The cunning system of settlements and the need for “live” money forced owners of barter cars to sell them at prices below average retail, and sometimes holiday prices. Of course, it was unprofitable for factories. The crisis helped: now manufacturers practically do not give cars by barter.
Anyone who still found a super-cheap car and decided to purchase it should be prepared for the fact that there would be no one to make a complaint, in which case. Often a purchase is made through the second or third firms, since the first one does not have a license to trade in cars. In general, you will not find the ends …
However, there are other options. For example, cars stagnated in stores, survived factory price hike. At the beginning of summer, after the next price spike, in Volga major Moscow motor shows and some UAZ models were cheaper than in factories.
