Mine minefield quickly and without loss? Help transport heavy equipment across the river? Pave the road in an impassable place? These tasks are on the shoulder of the engineering troops, in the location of which our correspondents visited.

Engineering troops appeared before our era. They built fortifications, dug fortifications, even erected artificial embankments to the level of the walls to attack the enemy from them. Many battles are won thanks to these supporting characters. Since then, the tasks of the engineering troops have not changed much, but the possibilities have increased significantly. First of all, thanks to the original technique, which performs difficult and often dangerous work for a person.

We drove into the territory of the Scientific and Research Center for Engineering Troops in Nakhabinsk near Moscow to meet interesting equipment face to face. The GMZ-3 caterpillar mine loader lays mines on the ground or snow every 5 or 10 m at a speed of up to 16 km / h. If necessary, the installation will mask the charges. The GMZ-3 ammunition includes 208 anti-tank mines. For equipping vehicles, the TM-57, proven over the years, and the modern by military standards TM-89, adopted for service in 1993, are suitable. To load the ammunition, the crew will need about 20 minutes.

The BMR-3 armored mine clearing vehicle is, in fact, a T-72 tank, in which, instead of a cannon, a rut-and-mine trawl is in front. The crew inside is more spacious, if only because there is no ammunition. The trawl can withstand up to eight explosions of anti-tank mines, then it is replaced. However, if the mines are installed in accordance with all the rules, then this is enough to lay a passage through the mined area.

Where scrap and sledgehammers are powerless, the IMR-3 engineering barrage machine is indispensable. For example, in an hour it will advance 400 m in the middle of a forest windbreak and a little less in stone rubble. Ahead of the production tools is a dump (it is proudly called a working body), working in a single dump or grader position, and an arrow with a powerful gripper-manipulator. The crew is a driver and commander (aka operator). For the sake of safety, the manipulator will not turn until the mechanic closes the hatch. Do you know how much fuel IMR-3 burns out when it rumbles in place? 118 l / h! In general, forget about downsizing, Euro norms and limiting CO 2 emissions.

The Liebher bulldozer is a foreign mercenary. Arrived in the army last summer after working in the village of Alabino, where he built roads for tank biathlon competitions. Ready to do any job - pave the way for wheeled vehicles, clear areas for troop parking, draw up roadsides. Before Liebher, domestic ChTZ worked in parts. To my question, is there any difference, the officer hesitated and answered: "Well, a foreign car is more comfortable."

Knowing the target audience, Liebher was not bought in the poorest configuration: with air conditioning, an autonomous heater. But without an audio system. It’s better that a soldier learns marching during a service.

A column of four TMM-3 vehicles (heavy mechanized bridge) in 20 minutes induces a temporary crossing over a river, ravine or hollow up to 40 m wide and not more than 6 m deep. It’s only a pity that the wooden cabin of the KrAZ-255B tractor is so rotten that it doesn’t even paint over - it blows in the winter.

All for cover! A trench up to 3.5 m deep and the same width for heavy armored vehicles will be excavated by a pit machine MDK-3 in 5–10 minutes. The rotor rotating behind, gradually deepening, gnaws out and throws aside up to 800 m³ of soil in an hour. The operator can control the process remotely, leaving a place behind the steering wheel. By the way, the cabin is airtight - theoretically, it protects against chemical and radioactive contamination (in practice, it was decided not to test these capabilities for various reasons). The installation base was borrowed from the MT-T multi-purpose tractor. 12-cylinder B-46-6 turbodiesel with 780 hp accelerates a 40-ton monster to a considerable 60 km / h.

Clearing the field will help … "Serpent Gorynych." This is the name of the UR-77 mine clearance unit. She makes passages in minefields in an explosive way: she approaches a mined area and cockes a guide for launching charges - she was nicknamed “frying pan” for its characteristic shape. A jet engine draws a plastid charge in a flexible hose up to 400 m long. The detonates the charge, and a corridor about 6 m wide and up to 400 m long is formed in the minefield. True, some types of mines, for example stretch marks, cannot be rendered harmless in this way.

Drink, Ivanushka, a puddle of water, do not fear for the future! Unless, of course, the liquid passed through a mobile water purification system, consisting of several units on the Ural-532361 chassis. The station takes water from any reservoir and purifies it from bacteria, poisonous and radioactive substances. Of course, they first take a sample for analysis in order to calculate the amount and composition of the reagents. Then the liquid is poured into containers and packaged in a film. All operations are automated, the productivity of the complex is 400 l / h, the maximum uptime is 20 hours.

Containers are made directly on board. From such test tubes, bottles are shaped that resemble soldier flasks. Apparently, the soldier did not have to get used to another type of dishes.
